Part of the answer to the balance problem: I didn’t notice at the time, but the original plan (when I devised the tube) was to have the bill set about an inch closer to the shoulders. It’s where it needs to be to go with the feet as they turned out – after a complex double trip to the wax pot for claws and webs – but the whole creature is bigger and heavier than intended.
